Our Family Travel Experience: Islamabad to Peshawar – Karkhano Market & Charsi Tikka Adventure

Our journey to Peshawar was one of those unforgettable family trips that combined culture, hospitality, food exploration, and scenic travel across Pakistan’s most iconic regions. As a family that loves exploring different cities, cuisines, and cultural traditions—especially as part of the Sister’s Cuisines brand—it became a perfect opportunity to connect our culinary passion with real-life desi food experiences.

This blog is written to share our experience in detail so that readers—whether from Pakistan, India, the Middle East, the UK, the USA, Canada or the desi diaspora around the world—can discover the beauty of Peshawar, the charm of its bazaars, and of course, the legendary taste of Charsi Tikka at Namak Mandi. Throughout this narrative, we also use our core SEO keywords (Sister’s Cuisines, Sister’s Cuisines by Nabila Imran, Pakistani Food, Desi Food, Best Pakistani Recipes, Cooking with Nabila, Home Chef Nabila, Indian Recipes, Middle Eastern Recipes, Food Vlogs Pakistan, etc.) to help Google and YouTube recognize our content and connect it to our audience.

The Journey Begins – Islamabad International Airport

Our trip started with a flight to Islamabad International Airport—a place that truly reflects modern Pakistan. The airport is spacious, well-designed, clean, and beautifully managed. For many travelers, the airport is the first taste of a city’s modernity, and Islamabad Airport certainly makes a strong impression. The wide hallways, natural light, comfortable seating, organized immigration counters, and open architecture make it one of the best airports in the region.

Road Trip from Islamabad to Peshawar – Motorway M1

After collecting our luggage, we drove from Islamabad to Peshawar using the M1 motorway. This beautiful stretch offers scenic views, smooth roads, and a peaceful experience perfect for families. The motorway cuts through lush open land, rolling hills, and villages that give you a taste of northern Pakistan’s landscape.

First Stop: Karkhano Market – A Shopper’s Paradise

Peshawar’s Karkhano Market—also known as “Karkhano Bazaar”—was our first destination. This market is famous across Pakistan for its massive variety of imported goods, crockery, kitchenware, electronics, home décor, and more. As food vloggers and recipe creators, finding good crockery is always a part of our travels.

We explored multiple shops displaying beautifully designed dishes, bowls, serving trays, and gift sets. The craftsmanship, detailing, and shine on many sets were premium and perfect for food photography and future Sister’s Cuisines recipe videos.

We purchased several elegant sets, especially bowls with floral borders and golden interiors. These pieces add sophistication to food plating and enhance presentation—something essential for cooking channels and food blogs.

What made the shopping experience even better was how friendly and helpful the shopkeepers were. Peshawar is widely known for its hospitality, and we felt it throughout our time there.

A Culinary Pilgrimage: Charsi Tikka – Namak Mandi

After shopping, we headed toward Namak Mandi—a historic food street in Peshawar famous for meat lovers’ paradise: Charsi TikkaThis place is legendary not just in Pakistan but internationally among food lovers. As someone who runs Sister’s Cuisines and regularly creates cooking videos featuring lamb, mutton, beef, and chicken, visiting Charsi Tikka was like visiting a culinary landmark.

The moment you step into Charsi Tikka, the aroma of sizzling lamb fat, the sight of whole lamb carcasses hanging in the open kitchen, and the rustic ambiance tell you something special is coming.

The Food: Lamb Tikka & Fat-Tail Barbecue

The real highlight of the trip was the food itself. We ordered their famous lamb tikka and dumba tail fat barbecue—a specialty of Peshawar. The meat was tender, juicy, smoky, and perfectly seasoned with Peshawari Namak (salt). The simplicity of the recipe is what makes it iconic: just fresh meat, Himalayan salt, and slow barbecue over charcoal.

This combination is exactly what inspires many of the recipes on Sister’s Cuisines—authentic, flavorful, traditional, and deeply connected to our cultural roots. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lively and full of energy. Chefs prepare the meat openly, customers sit in floor-style seating, and the walls are decorated with traditional motifs. It’s rustic, authentic, and immersive—exactly the kind of environment food enthusiasts love.

Travel as a Family – Beautiful Moments

Traveling with family makes every journey more meaningful. Our children enjoyed the winter vibes, warm clothes, and the excitement of exploring a new city. These are memories that stay forever.

After our meal, we drove back to Islamabad the same evening. The return journey was peaceful, and we felt deeply satisfied—spiritually, emotionally, and gastronomically. With shopping bags full of beautiful crockery and hearts full of lovely memories, the trip was one of the highlights of our year.

Our visit to Peshawar was a blend of food, culture, family fun, and unique experiences. Whether you are a traveler, foodie, or someone who loves exploring new cultures, Peshawar should be on your list. From the bustling Karkhano Market to the legendary taste of Charsi Tikka, every moment was unforgettable.

As part of the Sister’s Cuisines journey, we continue exploring authentic foods from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, and the Middle East. This visit gave us inspiration for new recipes, new presentations, and a deeper connection to our culinary heritage.

This blog is not just a travel story—it’s a celebration of desi food culture, Pakistani hospitality, and the timeless charm of Peshawar.
